Dans Movies – What are Dans Movies?

Science fiction has long been a popular theme in movies, and one cult classic is “Dans Une Galaxie Pres de Chez-vous”. Released in 2004 and produced in Canada, it is a send-up of big-budget films such as the Star Trek series.

The film’s title means “A Galaxy Near You”, and it is set far into the future. Earth has been rendered uninhabitable, and a Canadian spaceship leaves the planet in order to find more suitable living conditions. The film’s humorous take on the situation makes for very funny viewing, and plans for a sequel are forthcoming.

The second popular science fiction film is “Le Voyage dans la lune”, meaning “A Trip to the Moon”. Shot in black-and-white, this science fiction movie was released in 1902. It was based on Jules Verne’s “From the Earth to the Moon” and “The First Men in the Moon” by H.G. Wells. The movie was very technologically advanced for its time, and its popularity continues even today. Its cinematic style is being imitated in music videos and other media the world over.

Perhaps one of the most well-known science fiction actors is David Bowie. In “The Man Who Fell to Earth”, Bowie plays an alien from a far-away galaxy, who came to Earth looking for water. He stays and ends up going mad, and this film won him a lot of critical acclaim. In the movie “Labyrinth, he plays the king of the goblins, and this film enjoys cult classic status as well. David Bowie can not only sing, he can act too!  Believe it or not, Kenny Rogers (yes, the country singer) is a sci-fi actor as well. He has starred in a number of made-for-television movies in the science fiction genre.

Science fiction is (and continues to be) a recurring theme in television and movies, and its popularity can only mean that more and more actors will be getting in on the action.
